While Artist-in-Residence at Arkansas Tech University, I transformed my community outreach approach to encourage virtual engagement. As I completed the River Valley Mural, I designed The Peach Tree and invited the River Valley, AR community to take part in the process. The mural addresses food production and preparation, which is fitting for its home on the exterior of the River Valley Food 4 Kids pantry warehouse. Local children and their families, only recently social distancing in their homes at the onset of Covid-19, were invited to submit artwork of their favorite foods. I used participants’ drawings and paintings as inspiration for the mural’s content and design.
